Historic Series Wood Railing Kits

Railings with Pre-drilled rail

Step 1.

Set newel posts to accommodate pre-drilled rail length (available in 71 ½” or 95 1/2”).

Step 2.

If rail needs to be cut to fit, center pre-drilled rail between newel posts and trim equal amounts from each end of top and bottom rails.

Hint: The Rail Hangers (2) will add ¼” total to the length of the rail. Measure rail length must be reduced by ¼”.

Step 3.

Slide Rail Hanger Bracket over the end of the rail and attach with screws through end of rail.

Hint: Opening of bracket must always be up.

Step 4.

Lay balusters on a deck and thread Lock-Bar through slot at top end of balusters

Hint: Trim Lock-Bar to fit between the posts. Paint must be re-applied to the cut end of the lock bar.

Step 5.

With a high-quality polyurethane construction adhesive, fill all the holes half way. This will permanently bond the wood to the balusters.

Step 6.

Insert Balusters into pre-drilled rails.

Step 7.

Attach assembled rail section to posts at both ends, on the top and bottom.

Railings with Pre-drilled Rail

Step 1.

Lay rails across nosing of stairs. Center pre-drilled rail, mark it where it crosses the post and draw a line vertically. This will give you the appropriate end cut to fit between the posts.

Hint: The Rail Hangers (2) will add ¼” total to the length of the rail. Measured rail length must be reduced by ¼”.

Step 2.

Slide Rail Hanger Bracket over the end of the rail and attach the scres through end of rail.

Hint: Opening the bracket must always be up

Step 3:

Lay balusters on ground and thread Lock-Bar through.

Hint: The Lock Bar must be cut on each end to match the angle of the stairs and length between the posts. Use same method as in Step 1. Paint must be re-applied to the cut ends of the Lock-Bar.

Step 4:

With a high-quality polyurethane construction adhesive, fill all the holes, in the top and bottom rails, half way. Push the wider end of the Angle Adaptor into the pre-drilled holes. Push balusters over Angle Adaptors on bottom rail. Angle adaptors are made to fit standard stair angles.

Hint: Make sure Angle Adaptors are facing the right direction, top opposite to bottom.

Step 5.

Attach assemble rail section to posts at both ends, on the top and bottom.

Step 6.

Finished connection.

Before you begin:

It is a good idea to check with the office of the local building inspector as local building codes and by-laws may apply. The vertical height from the floor to top of the railing and spacing between balusters are frequently stipulated.
